PEMA President, Ottonel Popesco, passes away

It is with great sadness that the Port Equipment Manufacturers Association (PEMA) announces the death of its President and Chairman, Mr Ottonel Popesco. 

The Association would like to express its deepest sympathies to Ottonel’s family, friends, and colleagues.

Ottonel was passionate about PEMA and its goals and had headed the Association since 2008. He dedicated much of his time and energy to building the Association to the status it enjoys today providing a personal and professional approach to everything. Ottonel graduated from the Paris-Sorbonne University and held several executive positions throughout a highly successful career in the global ports and terminals sector as well as in other international organisations. Ottonel was a registered engineer and an associate member of the Facilities Engineering Committee of the American Association of Port Authorities.

As First Vice President of the Association, Mr Achim Dries will assume the role of acting Chairman of the Board until a permanent successor is appointed according to PEMA bylaws.
