PEMA Joins ISO to Advance Global Standards in Port Equipment

August 2025

The Port Equipment Manufacturers Association (PEMA) is proud to announce that it has become a member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), further strengthening its commitment to innovation, safety, and sustainability in the global port equipment sector.

In August 2025, ISO/TC8/SC27 welcomed PEMA onboard in the Category A liaison organisation and through this membership, PEMA reaffirms its mission to drive progress and represent the collective voice of the port equipment industry on the global stage.

We are confident that this partnership will strengthen our collective efforts and contribute significantly to the advancement of international standards,’ said Siyuan Tang, Manager, ISO/TC8/SC27.

As an internationally recognised body, ISO develops and publishes standards that ensure quality, safety, efficiency, and interoperability across industries worldwide. By joining ISO, PEMA will play an active role in shaping the future of technical standards that directly impact port equipment, terminal operations, and supply chain performance.

“This membership marks an important milestone for PEMA and our members,” said Achim Dries, PEMA President. “Our participation in ISO will allow us to contribute to the development of global standards that foster safer, smarter, and more sustainable port operations.”

PEMA’s engagement with ISO will:

  • Enhance collaboration between manufacturers, operators, and international stakeholders.

  • Promote innovation by aligning new technologies with globally recognised standards.

  • Support sustainability goals by helping set standards that reduce environmental impact.

  • Strengthen safety and efficiency across the maritime and logistics industry.
