PEMA 2023 AGM Meeting – Hamburg April 2023

 

The PEMA Annual General Meeting 2023 was held in Hamburg, Germany last week 25th & 26th of April. This was the AGM and general assembly to take place in person since COVID, with over 130 people in attendance. PEMA was delighted to see so many members in attendance and to meet with friends and colleagues.  PEMA was especially pleased to welcome senior representatives and guests from the German Port industry.

The 2-day event began with a boat tour of the Port of Hamburg, which was guided by Torsten Neubert of HPC. In the afternoon, PEMA’s Head of Technology, Pat O’Leary, moderated the Technical Committee Meetings and was joined by the chairs and vice-chairs of PEMA’s four Technical Committees. Our sponsors, HPC,  also gave a short presentation on the subject of Digital Twins. Participants provided great insight and had in-depth discussions on the white papers topics that will be developed in the future.

PEMA President, Achim Dries, welcomed all the members and gave an overview of the association’s activities and plans. “ We are very proud of the new PEMA brand, the new website with an exclusive members-only area, the Ottonel Popesco Student Challenge 2023, our technical papers, and our invaluable networking events and highlighted that PEMA will celebrate 20 years as an organisation in 2024”  

Jean O’Connell and Laura Codd from O’Connell Marketing presented the PEMA Administration, Brand Marketing, Communications and Events update including a huge growth in activity and membership engagement. PEMA was delighted to welcome six international guest speakers from the Port industry: Christian Klaus (COSCO SHIPPING (Europe) GmbH), Karsten Behrens (SAL Engineering GmbH), Luisa Kempf (EUROGATE Technical Services GmbH & Terminal Industry Committee 4.0), Leticia Astudillo (Drewry Consulting Agency), Sahar Rashidbeigi (APM Terminals) and Ulf Bockelmann (HHLA group). These speakers shared exclusive insights into the key challenges that the industry generally and their organisations currently face, and how they plan to mitigate these challenges.

PEMA would like to thank all those who travelled from all over the world to attend the event. President Achim Dries also thanked the board members, Pat O’Leary Head of Technology, and Jean, Laura, and the OCM team for their ongoing support and commitment and for delivering such a successful event in Hamburg.
