Kalmar wins the “2019 PEMA Innovation award”

The PEMA Innovation awards were introduced to acknowledge and reward the exceptional work and the results gained by our members in the port industry, in the face of an ever increasing competitive and innovative market.

 

Mr Ottonel Popesco, PEMA President & Chairman of the Board, expressed his delight with the high turnover of participants in the first year of the initiation of the competition. “Navigating a business to success can be a difficult trial, thus we are keen to showcase the dedication, expertise and sheer hard work of our commendable winners. We are pleased to award Kalmar the PEMA innovation award 2019 for their two (2) products:

  • Kalmar fully electric terminal tractor;
  • Kalmar FastCharge; Powering the port of the future.

We, as PEMA, would like to wish them the best of luck for the future and congratulate them on their win in this year’s awards programme among the 21 participating companies. Congratulations to the entire R&D team from Kalmar” commentated Mr Popesco when asked to share his thoughts.

The presentations submitted by PEMA members were independently evaluated by representatives from global terminal operators, namely Jann Cuppens -DP World, Boris Wenzel – TERMINAL LINK, Mark Wooton – YILPORT HOLDING, Chong Tak Keong – PSA International, Alexandru Duca – APM Terminals, Maj-Britt Bruns – EUROGATE GmbH & Co. KGaA, KG, Antonio Schmidt HHLA.

Mr Popesco handed the award to Kalmar representatives (Pekka Yli-Paunu, Director – Research, Pia Vuorela – Product Manager, Automation, Jari Hamalainen – Director, Terminal Automation) at the PEMA Autumn Members Meeting 2019 in Marseille, France.

“Innovation and sustainability are at the heart of Kalmar business, and we have made a bold commitment to provide our full offering as electrically powered version by 2021. We are very honoured to receive this first ever innovation award from PEMA. It proves that we are on the right track in providing disruptive and innovative technologies to make cargo handling safer, more sustainable and productive., commentated Mr Hamalainen as he handed the award in front of 152 delegates from global port equipment manufacturing companies, representing the wide spectrum of PEMA’s scope.
