TECONDI Terminal, Santos Brazil awards integrated project of truck and rail OCR systems to HTS

30.07.2012 – HTS Brazil has secured an order for 20 OCR truck gate systems and 2 OCR rail systems from TECONDI, the largest terminal in Brazil. 

HTS announced that the TECONDI Terminal in Santos Brazil has awarded the establishment of 20 truck OCR gates and 2 Rail OCR portals to HTS. This effort will be led by HTS Brazil which will provide a turn-key project to TECONDI.

TECONDI is the largest and busiest terminal in the Port of Santos accounting for approximately 17% of container traffic  in Santos. The terminal of TECONDI covers 150,000 square metres and can handle up to 700,000 TEUs per year.  Therefore, technology to further automate traditional manual processes is now considered strategically vital for container-handling through to complete planning and implementation of port operations. The strong demand for solutions to increase productivity numbers at lower costs, with increased throughput at existing facilities, have necessitated the introduction of automation technology.

TECONDI has taken up this challenge: “Our team of professionals, which grew by 35% in 2010, is committed to meeting the specific needs of each of our customers. At TECONDI we seek to add value to our services, and offer our customers ease and flexibility of movement, via automation of Container handling” stated Paulo  Vaz, IT Manager TECONDI.

The decision to further automate the terminal is timed strategically as Brazil has initiated a legal requirement for automation of ports that must be met by the end of the year. In essence, by December 2012, the port terminals must be equipped to scan 100% of containers, using OCR for the identification of containers and trucks, on arrival and on departure, without human intervention. Those who fail to comply will not be able to operate.

TECONDI will implement 20 HTS Gate Entry and Exit Portals of SeeGate3, which  is a fully integrated third generation Gate OCR system that automatically reads and records the container ISO code number as the truck passes through a gate complex.  Also included in this project are 2 HTS SeeTrain systems which are fully integrated rail OCR systems that automatically read and record the container ISO code numbers as the train travels on its tracks and is ideal as a portal system either at the entry and/or exit rail tracks of the terminal, or any other intermodal facilities.

HTS Brazil will be supplying this project turnkey, providing all inputs and infrastructures necessary for the building and wiring of gantries themselves, installation and alignment of the SeeGate and SeeTrain systems, provision of network assets and system software, and communications fibre.
