October 19, 2009 – Global ports industry body, the Port Equipment Manufacturers Association (PEMA), continues its recent development with the announcement that leading drive systems supplier Control Techniques is to become a member of the association.

“PEMA’s continued growth is most encouraging, and Control Techniques are a most welcome addition to the association. The more manufacturers that chose to join the association, the greater our potential to realize efficiencies across the ports industry,” says PEMA President, Ottonel Popesco.

PEMA provides a forum and public voice for the global port equipment sector, reflecting the industry’s critical role in enabling safe, secure, sustainable and productive ports and thereby supporting world maritime trade.

Control Techniques’ comprehensive range of advanced AC, DC and Servo drives are used in motor control and power conversion technologies in a wide variety of commercial and industrial applications throughout the world.

The group’s solutions help save energy, increase productivity and reduce operating costs for port and factory cranes, process automation, lifts, HVAC/R, test rigs, photovoltaic energy conversion, and energy saving.

In the ports sector, Control Techniques’ provides systems for container, bulk and cargo applications including ship-to-shore, rubber tyre gantry (RTG) and rail mounted gantry (RMG) cranes and straddle carriers, ship and grab unloaders, slewing and barge-mounted grabs, single-, double-boom and Goliath overhead cranes.

The latest in a series of companies to join PEMA, Control Techniques’ membership follows crane cabin specialist Brieda Cabins, port vehicle manufacturer Linde Heavy Trucks and port equipment and services group Portek.
