History

PEMA was established in late 2004 by a group of leading equipment manufacturers serving the global port and terminal markets. The goal was to create a neutral platform that could publicly represent the industry as a whole, as well as fostering knowledge and relations within the global port equipment community.

Founder members including Bromma Conquip, Fantuzzi-Reggiane (now part of Terex Cranes), Hyster Europe, Kalmar Industries (now part of Cargotec Corporation) and Konecranes were joined over the next three years by further OEMs active in the port market, plus providers of equipment systems and components including cable reels, drives, tyres and others.

A change to the constitution in 2008 also opened the door to membership from technology providers and consulting companies, since which time the membership has grown steadily.

Today, PEMA’s members represent a broad cross-section of companies active in the design and supply of equipment, systems and technology to support the growing demands of modern port and terminal operations.
