Kari Rintanen – Manager, Port Technology Research, Konecranes – has been appointed as the new Chair of the PEMA Automation & Control Technologies (AC&T) Committee and Alois Recktenwald – Senior Key Expert Cranes for Siemens AG Process Industries and Drives Division – is now the AC&T Committee’s Vice Chair.
“I’m thrilled to be involved in the work of PEMA’s committees, and I’m keen to build further on the achievements of the AC&T Committee,” says Rintanen. “The AC&T Committee performs vital work on key issues for the global ports and terminals sector, and I’m excited by the prospect of contributing to its efforts,” adds Recktenwald.
The AC&T Committee is formed of PEMA members and other experts in the manufacture and supply of advanced software, hardware and systems.  The Committee promotes innovation, thought leadership, best practice awareness in the development and use of equipment drives, controls and robotics, process automation, automated identification, sensing, location and navigation, communications and data management technologies, operations software, systems integration and associated ICT in ports and terminals. As part of its remit, the Committee also develops and promotes industry guidelines and standards.

Frank Kho, Global Head- Offering Development for Kalmar has been appointed as Vice Chair of PEMA’s Safety & Environment (S&E) Committee and will work along-side Lars Meurling of Bromma, who is the current Chair of the S&E Committee.
“I’m looking forward to working together with Lars Meurling and the rest of the members to continue and expand the great work already have done by S&E Committee,” says Kho.
The mission of the Safety & Environment Committee is to provide a neutral information and education platform on the development and use of safer and greener technologies in the port and terminal industries. As part of this effort, the Committee works with other port and cargo handling associations, as well as individual companies, to keep abreast of the latest trends and initiatives, and inform PEMA members and the wider community accordingly.

“PEMA’s growing range of activities at live events and its educational initiatives are integral to the objectives of the Association, and I’m delighted to have the opportunity to further develop this important work,” says Sojo Arana.
Formed in March 2013, PEMA’s SEPE Committee is responsible for defining, developing and managing the content of PEMA’s live events, including masterclasses, industry forums, and other conference activities, both at internal and external meetings. The Committee is also tasked to establish links and co-operative initiatives with the academic and research sectors, with the goal of improving knowledge exchange and understanding between industry and academia, and fostering the development of young talent.

PEMA would like to thank the previous holders of these positions and their tremendous contribution to the work of the committees, which has helped to raise the profile of PEMA and assisted the Association with the expansion of its membership in recent years.
